Reflection

I used my sketchbook work from the primer task to create a narrative illustration. I combined the interior of the After school club i used to go to with one of the designs from the ink illustration. The house skipping in the centre of my narrative painting symbolizes this idea of having many narratives in one, much like Devlin Shea's work. The house skipping also references the house coming to life due to its surroundings and atmosphere where children are playing and having fun, so it adapts, grows legs and arms to join in with the childlike activities. The colour and tone of this piece is quite dark and mellow. Similar to Rudy Loewe's work i deliberately chose colours that would reflect the purpose of my narrative. Although my narrative seems lighthearted and joyous, the colours represent this idea of a distant memory that has become clouded and lost overtime.

Overall i think my narrative illustration is a decent piece. I like the brushstrokes in my work. Its kind of similar to impasto painting where the brush strokes are blotchy and streaky. The piece has a solid foundation of meaning and thought behind why the colours were chosen. I could perhaps add a darker blue or black in the painting to make certain areas strand out, and look less flat.
