Reflection

I felt that the theatre and screen performance task complimented my style of working, such as painting. At first i was set on going into the Fine Art sector to take on painting, However This project incorporated elements of painting and narrative which is making me re-think my decision. I liked creating a narrative for a picture in the primer task and combining it with the ideas of my peers. Creating a narrative helped solidified the paintings and establishing the characters and set. For example with the image of the old ladies and cat's chosen in the primer, Our group decided to make the old ladies turn into evil abusive cat owners. This narrative strand helped us formulate the character shown above. The colours and style of clothing was chosen on the basis of her purpose in the narrative. Red and black establishes the idea that she is the cunning, wicked,villain, trying to to harm anything that comes in her way when trying to get her cats back.

The collaborative set design was enjoyable to create as we were able to bring our story boarding to life. At first our group was going to make the wired animals so that we could act out our narrative through a projector, like a puppet show. However the wired silhouettes of the animals were too thin to be seen on the projector, so we decided to create card board cut outs to make a set, which was later expressed through animation. The animation paired with card board set design, supported the development of our overall piece. Those who worked on the card board set took inspiration from the animation which bought it too life and vise versa. I really like the performative element that we were able to express in this project.
